Our Green Faith Day, Saturday 18th June 2011

Updated 4th June - more information on speakers.
As part of our Eco-congregation project, we are holding a Green Faith Day at Didcot Methodist Church on Saturday 18th June. The theme for the day is: 'Why - and how - should Christians care for the environment?'

We are planning the following programme, which will run from 9.30am to 4.00 pm. We will add more details when available.

Plenary session: 'Why - and how- can Christians care for the environment?'
Jo Rathbone, Christian Ecology Link Trustee and former Eco-congregation co-ordinator Ben Niblett, Head of Campaigns at Tearfund
Jo and Ben will speak on our theme, followed by a question and answer session.

Morning workshops - choose from:

-Is the environment a mission issue? Speaker: Matt Freer, Environmental Officer for Diocese of Oxford.
-Climate science. Speaker: Andrew Kaye, climate scientist.
-The global perspective: communities affected by climate change. Speaker: Ben Niblett.
-Introduction to Eco-congregation (for churches considering the programme). Discussion led by Maranda St John Nicolle, Christian Concern for One World.

Lunch

Afternoon workshops - choose from:

-Faith and the environment
-Carbon reduction for churches (panel discussion). Philip Burns, Didcot Methodist Church and Carbon Reduction Advocate for Northampton District; Colin Bemrose, former Methodist District Property Secretary; Mary Hancock, Senior Lecturer in Environmental Design, Oxford Brookes University.
-The global perspective: food security. Speaker: Maranda St John Nicolle, Christian Concern for One World.
-Eco-congregation: where next? (for churches already on the programme. Discussion led by Penny Dakin Kiley (Didcot Methodist Church Eco-congregation co-ordinator)

Closing worship.
